Study to assess economic impact of the current Banff Bridge (A98 river crossing) Aberdeenshire Council has commissioned AECOM to undertake a study to examine the economic impact of the current Banff Bridge (A98 River Deveron Crossing) as a route for trips between Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Inverness. The study follows a previous STAG (Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance) Part 1 study that was undertaken in 2008, and will also require to consider current concerns about the safety of the bridge for local access between Banff and Macduff for all traffic (including pedestrians and cyclists) and impacts of temporary restrictions or closures due to maintenance works, or other road traffic incidents.
A key part of the consultation exercise is to gain an understanding of how different users may be affected by any changes to the bridge. The information gathered will also consider the social impact of the bridge and help inform decisions on any future improvements.
Users of the bridge are being encouraged to feed in their opinions and experiences through an online survey: www.banffbridgesurvey.net
Drop-in sessions in the area are also planned – details to follow.
Following the consultation, the community will be given the opportunity to feed back on the outcomes of the exercise. The results of the consultation will be reported to councillors, together with options for the future of the bridge, which may include a new or upgraded crossing, as well as the potential costs.
